Items:
WHOI deployment
- Kevin returned from a GUI-development week, where he rec'd much positive feedback on ESP GUI. Many changes have been implemented. New version should be on Confluence by Friday. Older versions will then not work, as database structure has been changed.
- Complicated plans for ESP-Bruce recovery, depending on contingencies. Roman leaving May 21, to return June 11, unless he needs more time to run standards. This necessary as ESP-Bruce is giving very low numbers of Alexandrium--more investigation needed as to why. Final plans will solidify as June 7 approaches.
- ACTION ITEM-- Chris S. to contact WHOI to have a final conference call discussing this swap on June 7 and the various contingencies.
JdF
- Mission and communications to D-ESP will be unique. Unlikely we will need GUI for this cruise.
- Currently in the middle of qualifying 6 p/p sets for qPCR. Have learned that Harvard never ran any of these on an MFB, and some were only minimally characterized on their bench-top instrument. Standards for their two methanogen p/p were either bad, or not here yet. We aren't in trouble, but there is not much time-margin left...
- Roman printed SHA arrays yesterday, but didn't like the print quality. Too much power and not enough hydrophobic tip coating caused 'splash'. He's re-doing them today.
- Logistics still need working out:
- crew list and bunk space
- Flatbed will leave MBARI on July 6, arriving for unload in Newport on July 8. Instrument loaded on ship on Monday, July 11. Shove off July 12. Will discuss travel to/from Newport at engineering meeting.
- Screen on end of wand. Doug P suggests a 0.2mm screen size from Ti. Can't find a 0.5mm one in Ti. Do we have contingencies if it plugs? No. Maybe make it big and bulbous to lessen the likelihood of plugging.
Other Items
- We will buy the 'suck-and-sniff' He leak detector. put on 900915. Roman will order.
- We will by optode for O2 sensing for D-ESP (see Feb 15 notes). Still needs ordering. Roman.
- The Fall deployment schedule still somewhat unknown. We will be putting an instrument on the pier, but unknown exactly when. Will an instrument be in the bay at/near that time? Still to be determined. There would likely be the first time(s) the new GUI would really be put through its paces.
- Bill and Chris have been testing whether EtOH would be a better diluent then our current SPEdil, but notice a 2 Ct shift (worse) with EtOH.
- Chris P talked of doing direct PCR on 0.2 HA filters to look for viruses.
